The Sheep Sanctuary is the only animal animal sanctuary in Santa Fe
County or in New Mexico, that specializes in the care and
shelter of ruminants (sheep and goats) in addition to other farm and domestic
animals.
Also
working to meet the needs of the community, the Sheep Sanctuary provides a safe place for wild
birds and other wildlife. The Sheep Sanctuary has been certified by the National
Wildlife Federation as a "wildlife habitat".
A recent
project has been started to create a sanctuary for honey bees whose survival is currently
threatened by planetary changes. We have also collaborated with organizations
concerned about the native ecosystems and the creatures that are affected by
the wide-scale construction on route 599 and I-25 such as the prairie dogs.
Additionally we are working interdependently with several other non-profit organization
involved in ethical stewardship of all species. We promote vegetarianism and
educate the public regarding the physical, spiritual and environmental benefits
of humane and conscious treatment of all creatures. We have been educating
children since 2005 about where their food comes from.
More
programs that engage school children grades K-12 are being developed. We plan to work with school programs that encourage volunteerism in
youth for educational and therapeutic value.
